HARRISBURG (Jun 21) –
The State Senate recently adopted a
proposal by Senator Lisa M. Boscola
to create a special task force in
response to two major floods that
damaged homes and businesses
throughout the area in less than a
year.
By adopting Boscola’s
Senate Resolution, the Senate has
taken formal action to officially
urge Governor Ed Rendell to create a
task force to study flooding
problems and to establish plans and
procedures to reduce flooding in the
Commonwealth.
“Residents and
business owners are still recovering
from the losses caused by these
floods,” Boscola said. “This task
force would help find answers and
solutions that could reduce losses
caused by floods in the future.”
Many homes and
businesses in the Lehigh Valley were
damaged by the series of heavy rains
and strong storm systems that swept
through the state in the past ten
months.
“We have a network of
dams and reservoirs that are
designed to control flooding during
severe storms,” Boscola said. “It
may be necessary to take further
preventative measures to ensure the
safety of our residents.”
Senator Boscola said
she is contacting local
municipalities, groups, and
organizations that were impacted by
the flooding to urge them to send
letters to the Governor’s Office in
support of the flooding task force.
For more information,
interested persons are asked to
contact Senator Boscola’s office.
