BOSCOLA PRAISES SENATE PASSAGE OF 2007-08 BUDGET

HARRISBURG, JULY 16, 2007 – State Sen. Lisa Boscola today lauded Senate passage of Pennsylvania’s $27.2 billion spending plan.

“I am pleased that the 2007-08 budget contains no tax increases and restricts spending to a moderate 3.2 percent increase,” Boscola said. “The road toward a budget agreement was difficult, but the result is a spending plan that adequately addresses Pennsylvania’s priorities.”

The budget includes a remarkable $720 million increase in education spending, which includes $75 million for the governor’s “Pre-K Counts” funding; $90 million to upgrade high school classrooms with laptop computers; and $75 million the state's Educational Improvement Tax Credit program.

The spending plan also cuts business taxes by $225 million and implements rules for reducing health care-acquired infection.
