ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING FOR
AREA RECYCLING PROGRAMS
BETHLEHEM, DEC. 21, 2007:
Local municipalities
recently received state funding toward
recycling programs, according to state
Sen. Lisa Boscola.
“Recycling
is a simple, yet effective way to reduce
waste and help our environment. It also
supports jobs and our economy,” Boscola
said. “I’m pleased that the state is
encouraging our communities to recycle.”
The
following municipalities received
funding:

Lehigh County
received $450,000 to augment a
multi-municipal yard waste composting
program in the county.
·
Whitehall Township,
Lehigh County
received $4,050 to augment drop-off
recycling program.
·
East Stroudsburg, Monroe
County
received $36,110 to augment recyclable
materials processing.
·
Monroe County Municipal
Waste received
$206,858 to augment a multi-municipal
drop-off recycling program in the
county.
·
Stroud Township, Monroe
County
received $249,430 to augment a yard
waste collection and multi-municipal
composting program in the township.
·
Bethlehem, Northampton
County
received $424,000 to augment a leaf
waste collection program in the city.
The funding
is part of $20 million in grants
throughout the state through the
Recycling Development and Implementation
Grant Program, which reimburses local
governments and solid waste authorities
for the cost of municipal recycling and
composting programs.
In 2005,
Pennsylvanians recycled a record 4.9
million tons of municipal waste, saving
consumers and industries nearly $263
million in disposal costs and providing
businesses with materials valued at $577
million.
