Bethlehem, July 16, 2020 – – State Sen. Lisa Boscola today announced state funding totaling $863,933 for two transportation projects in the 18th Senatorial District through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“I’m pleased to announce the approval of these state funds allocated to help expedite important transportation projects that will improve our local transportation infrastructure and increase public safety for pedestrians and bicyclists,” Boscola said. “I will continue to seek state funding and resources for local projects seeking to make our community a better place to live and work.”

PennDOT approved the following projects for funding in the 18th Senatorial District:

  • Catasauqua Borough — $563,933 to construct new public streets that will provide vehicular access to and circulation through a mixed-use development on the former Crane Iron Works brownfield site. Improvements also include pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly features along the new street network aimed at creating a walkable mixed-use neighborhood.
  • Wilson Borough — $300,000 to replace the existing Lehigh Drive Bridge, which is in poor condition and rapidly deteriorating, with a pre-cast concrete box culvert.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants that may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development. Grants are available through separate grant applications from both PennDOT and the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).  DCED is currently accepting applications for its portion through September 30, 2020.
