Bethlehem, February 7, 2013 – State Sen. Lisa Boscola today announced that several area communities are receiving a total of over $1 million in state recycling grants.

“Recycling is a great way that households can pitch in to preserve our important natural resources,” Boscola said. “These state dollars help local municipalities manage their recycling programs.

“I will continue to seek state support for local programs and projects.”

The following municipalities received grants:

Monroe County

  • Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority, $250,000
  • Smithfield Township, $147,589
  • Stroud Township, $227,043

Northampton County

  • Bethlehem City, $250,000
  • Bethlehem Township, $205,745
  • Upper Nazareth Township, $237,292

The grants are in addition to funds Pennsylvania has been using to encourage communities to establish and maintain recycling programs since 1988.
