BETHLEHEM (October 28, 2016) – Today, state Senator Lisa Boscola is pleased to announce $1 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funding has been awarded to the City of Bethlehem Redevelopment Authority for the construction of the Polk Street Parking Garage.

“Mayor Donchez made it clear to me that this RACP request was the City of Bethlehem’s number one priority. The state’s RACP program continues to become more and more competitive with quality projects from all over the state seeking assistance”, Boscola said. “This garage will propel other constructions projects in the area and be an enormous benefit to Northampton Community College” Boscola continued. “I will continue to work with the Governor and my colleagues in the Senate to obtain RACP awards for my district. I recognize how important this program is to completing some worthy projects”, said Boscola.

“Bethlehem has come a long way in revitalizing itself and the old Bethlehem Steel land”, Mayor Bob Donchez said. “I appreciate the help of our state legislators in supporting the City’s request”, he continued. “Constructing the Polk Street garage will unlock another round of development in around the old Bethlehem Steel plant along the Third Street corridor, which is important for Bethlehem’s future”, he added.

Construction of the 585 space Parking Garage is integral to the development of educational, professional and technical employment in Bethlehem’s distressed Southside Commercial Corridor. The cost of the project is nearly $13 million.
