Bethlehem, Aug. 31, 2011— State Sen. Lisa M. Boscola today announced the release of $2 million in state funds for the 26,000 square foot festival center at the Steelstacks complex in Bethlehem.

“I am pleased that state dollars will be used toward this important vision that will transform a rusting steel mill into an attractive arts center for our region,” Boscola said. “I will continue to seek ways for the state to partner with local officials to generate tourism and economic development in our region.”

Boscola said the festival center would complete the 10-acre arts and cultural campus.  She commended Artsquest for its vision and hard work in transforming the site into a cultural asset.

“Steelstacks has become a gleaming model for what can become of aging industrial sites statewide,” Boscola said. “I am pleased to have played a role in helping make this ambitious plan a reality.”

Approved in January, the $2 million state RCAP (Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program) grant will be administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
