HARRISBURG, June 12, 2013 – State Sen. Lisa Boscola today appointed Javier R. Toro of Fountain Hill, Lehigh County, to a two-year term on the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s Consumer Advisory Council (CAC).

“I am pleased to appoint such a well regarded member of our community to this important consumer advisory post,” Boscola said. “Mr. Toro will bring a wealth of consumer protection knowledge and experience dealing with utilities to this advisory role.”

The 13-member CAC advises the state Public Utility Commission on matters relating to the protection of consumer interests that fall under the commission’s jurisdiction. The CAC holds bi-monthly meetings in Harrisburg, and its members serve without compensation.

Boscola, who serves as Democratic chair of the state Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee, has been a strong advocate for ratepayer protection, utility infrastructure upgrade and company preparedness/response reforms.

Toro, who currently serves as the customer care supervisor for the Community Action Committee of Lehigh Valley’s Energy Department, said he would work hard to follow Boscola’s path of improving the lives of members of the community.

“I am honored to receive this appointment and looking forward to serving the commission,” Toro said. “I hope to extend my work and advocacy for consumers from the Bethlehem region statewide.”

Toro has resided in the Lehigh Valley region for the past 19 years. He is an active member of the Bethlehem Coalition for Quality Education, South Side Initiative, and South Bethlehem Historical Society. Toro was the 2008 recipient of Lehigh University’s “Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., Award” for dedication and commitment in service.
