PHEAA Application Deadline Looming

ApplicationPHEAA is reminding students and families that the 2019-20 PA State Grant application submission deadline is May 1. This applies to all renewal applicants and first-time applicants who plan to enroll in a college, university, or transfer program at 2-year colleges.

Additionally, unlike a student loan, a grant is gift aid which does not have to be repaid.
To apply for a PA State Grant, applicants must first complete the 2019-20 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicants can access this form online by clicking here.

In addition to completing the FAFSA, first-time applicants must also submit a completed PA State Grant Form. First-time applicants who submit the FAFSA online will be automatically redirected to the SGF by following the onscreen prompts on the confirmation page. First-time applicants who have already submitted their FAFSA but have not completed the SGF will receive an email directing them to PHEAA’s secure Account Access site for completion. Both applications are free to submit.

First-time applicants who plan to enroll in a community college, business, trade, or technical school, a hospital school of nursing, a designated Pennsylvania Open Admission institution, or a non-transferable 2-year degree program at a community, 2-year or 4-year college have until Aug. 1, 2019 to complete their PA State Grant application.

Absentee Ballots Information

The Pennsylvania Department of State is encouraging eligible Pennsylvania voters to submit applications for primary election absentee ballots well before the May 14 deadline. Under the state election code, applications for absentee ballots must be received no later than one week before Election Day. For this year's May 21 primary election, the deadline falls on Tuesday, May 14. Voted ballots must be received by the appropriate county election office by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17.

Vote PA Absentee ballots may be cast by individuals with illnesses or disabilities, individuals who will be away from their municipality on business on Election Day, Pennsylvania students attending out-of-state colleges or universities and deployed members of the military.

Completed ballots may be returned in person or mailed to the Northampton County Elections Office, located at 669 Washington Street (Room 1211), Easton, PA or the Lehigh County Elections Office which is located at 17 South Seventh Street, Allentown, PA The voted ballots must be received in the county office by 5 p.m. the Friday before the May 21 primary. A timely postmark is not sufficient.

Absentee ballots can be picked up in any of my district offices or downloaded at

The issue of a quick turnaround between the last day an absentee ballot can be requested, the ballot is received by the voter, and then the voter returns the completed ballot in time to be counted could be avoided if Pennsylvania passed an Early Voting law.  I am proud to be a co-sponsor of Senator Fontana’s Senate Bill 294 (SB 294) which would allow voting to take place 15 days prior to Election Day. The polling places would be geographically located and open on both weekdays and weekends so that electors are provided an equal opportunity to participate in the process.
