Stimulus Funds Approved for LVIA

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced the grant amounts U.S. airports are getting from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The act includes $10 billion in funds to be awarded as economic relief to U.S. airports affected by the prevention of, preparation for, and response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Pennsylvania, 63 airports will get more than $239 million with almost $6.2 million earmarked for Lehigh Valley International Airport.

Given the expenses involved in operating an airport, the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact has been huge. It is safe to assume it is having a very negative effect on aviation fueling, small businesses on and off the airfield, and passenger fees collected.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck this area, LVIA had just celebrated 29 consecutive months of positive passenger growth - the airport remains open today and this funding will ensure their projects continue and their future remains as bright.
