Policy CommitteeThe opioid epidemic effects every walk of life – it is not prejudice. Right now, Pennsylvania is in the midst of an unprecedented opioid epidemic. Currently, at least 10 Pennsylvanians die every day – every day – from a drug overdose. The ultimate goal is simple – eliminate overdoses.

We must be open-minded in our approach as new information becomes available and new treatment trends are identified. There is no time to waste.

Education about prevention and providing better access to treatment is crucial in combating this epidemic.

Wednesday, at the request of Senators Tim Kearney & Anthony Williams, the Senate Democratic Policy Committee will host part 1 of 2 hearings on the Pennsylvania Opioid Epidemic where we will discuss and listen to testimony on combating and treating this epidemic. These hearing will be open to the public. However, if you are unable to attend, please join us by streaming LIVE at

Take-back prescription pillsDo Your Part

Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That is why we encourage you clean out your medicine cabinets and turn in – safely – all expired or unused prescriptions to a local take-back center near you.
