BETHLEHEM, January 16, 2015 – State Sen. Lisa Boscola (D-Northampton/Lehigh) has been re-appointed Democratic chair of the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee.

Boscola has held the position since she was first elected to the Senate in 1998.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished on this influential committee and will continue to fight for consumers,” Boscola said. “It is imperative that we concentrate on making our utilities more affordable, reliable and accountable.”

The committee reviews legislation involving utility issues and the state boards that license and regulate numerous professions in Pennsylvania.

In the past two-year legislative session, the committee held hearings and/or approved legislation aimed at: curbing unfair utility shut-offs; giving electric choice shoppers more detail, disclosure and timely information on their options; and helping utility companies step up the process of replacing antiquated and dangerous lines.

Last month, the Bethlehem lawmaker was re-elected by her Democratic colleagues to chair the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. Under Boscola’s leadership, the committee has held numerous hearings in Bethlehem and throughout the state on issues ranging from job creation to educational reform.

Boscola has also been appointed to serve on the Senate committees on Game and Fisheries, Judiciary, Rules and Executive Nominations, and Transportation.

“I’m pleased with all of these appointments, but look especially forward to my new position on the Transportation Committee where I hope to expedite construction work on our aging highways and bridges,” Boscola said.
