Bethlehem, PA − September 12, 2019 – State Senator Lisa M. Boscola announced today that Northampton and Lehigh Counties along with 3 local non-profits have been approved by the PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) for grants totaling $662,691 to enhance efforts to assist crime victims and improve county governments efficiencies in dealing with crime issues.
“It’s critical that at all levels of government we focus on crime prevention and improving our criminal justice systems, but when a crime occurs, we must ensure that we have in place the best possible procedures and programs to aid crime victims,” Boscola stated. “Through these important grants, the Lehigh Valley will be able to further enhance their efforts with crime prevention and aiding victims of crime.”
The following grants were approved by PCCD at their quarterly meeting on September 12, 2019:
- Lehigh County – $105,000 through the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Single Solicitation Local Initiatives program to support the institution of a Mobile Data Terminals in the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office.
- Northampton County – $150,000 through the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee 2019 Drug Court Initiatives program for the Northampton County Drug Court Initiative.
- Grants approved through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Funding:
- Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley – $43,828 for Victims Services in Lehigh and Northampton Counties;
- North Penn Legal Services – $144,392 for NPLS Emergency Legal Services Project; and,
- Valley Youth House Committee, Inc. – $219,471 for Mobile Trauma Focused Services Extension.
